Reproduction

There is no subject more important to the continuation of human life than reproduction.  The function by which we are all brought into the world is one of the most complex yet beautifully refined organic systems anywhere on the planet, covering a number of chemical and biological reactions.  Furthermore, it is something which has a bearing on the lives of millions of people everyday, who find out they are pregnant, or who give birth to their child.

There is nothing more rewarding than creating a life.  The combination of genetics from both parents is one of the most important factors of reproduction amongst humans, and this can have a profound impact on our behavior and attitudes in certain circumstances.  Some commentators believe that reproduction is the meaning of life, and it isn't hard to find support for this argument, given the extent to which it impacts our day-to-day living.  Relationships, flirting and even socializing to a certain extent are largely driven by natural functions and subconscious thought-patterns, which ultimately have a sexual or reproductive motive.

The process itself is fairly complicated, yet seems to work so well in modern society, as it has done throughout the ages.  After intercourse, sperm cells fuse with ovum cells, and their nuclei intertwine to create 'the bigger picture', i.e. the sum of all genetic material for the new baby-to-be.  It is truly amazing to consider this step goes a long way to determine certain personality and appearance traits in later life.  The new fused cell then embeds itself within the lining of the womb, where it begins to double and multiply, creating increasing numbers of cells which will eventually form baby.  Furthermore, the cell draws nutrients and energy from the mother and her diet through the umbilical cord for the nine month period until it is born.

Of course the hormonal impact for women at this time is vast, creating wildly varying mood swings and other personality changes.  This is understandable, considering the impact a living thing has on the body, and is something which should be respected by those round about during the pregnancy period.

Reproduction is an amazing process, and it is scientifically profound.  There is little doubt that such a factor could never be recreated to the same level by humans, again further underlining the process of nature and potentially reinforcing the strength of evolution in refining our biological processes and appearances.
